What is synthetic slate made of?
Synthetic slate, also called composite slate or polymer slate, is made from engineered polymers molded and colored to look like natural slate.
The synthetic slate we install is Brava Old World Slate. It is a lightweight slate roof alternative that gives you the look of natural stone without the weight of real stone.
Brava Old World Slate is our synthetic slate roofing, rated Class 4 for impact and carrying a 50-year transferable limited warranty.
How does synthetic slate compare to real slate?
Synthetic slate gives you the look of real slate at a much lower weight, with an impact-rated product and a long warranty. Real slate is natural stone.
Real slate is heavy, brittle underfoot and costly to repair, and it needs a specialist to install. Synthetic slate shingles install like a roofing system, over our standard full tear-off, deck inspection and underlayment.
Brava Old World Slate is Class 4 for impact and carries a 50-year transferable limited warranty, which can pass to the next owner of your home. If you love real stone, tell us at your Free Estimate and we will talk it through honestly.
How much does a synthetic slate roof cost?
Synthetic slate roofing in Branson averages $12 to $20 per square foot installed, depending on the size and complexity of your roof.
For example, a 2,000-square-foot roof works out to roughly $24,000 to $40,000 at those averages. Your roof's size and pitch, the number of valleys, dormers and chimneys, and the condition of the decking move the price within that range. These are averages, so your fixed price comes after a free estimate, and you have several payment options, including monthly payments.
Full tear-off, deck inspection, ice-and-water membrane, edge metal, ventilation and cleanup are in the price. Brava Cedar Shake is the other Brava line we install if you want to compare.
Does my roof need reinforcing for slate?
Real slate often needs the roof framing reinforced because of its weight. A lightweight synthetic slate roof usually does not, but we confirm it for your home.
We inspect the deck at tear-off, because that is the first time anyone can see it. Rotted sheets are replaced at a posted per-sheet price before the new roof goes on, and the photos go in your Home Passport.
At your free estimate we look at your roof and tell you honestly if anything about the structure needs attention before you choose designer roofing.
Does synthetic slate qualify for insurance discounts?
It may. Brava Old World Slate is rated Class 4, and impact-rated roofs may qualify for an insurance discount with some carriers. We cannot promise one.
Discounts vary by carrier and by policy, so ask your carrier what it offers and what documentation it needs. We send the carrier the roof's certificate, and the Home Passport keeps the products installed and their warranties on record.
We do not give insurance advice or handle claims, and your insurance company decides what applies.
