Big Chief Exteriors

Our install standards

What we cover up is what you are paying for.

The finish you see is the smaller part of the job. The layers under it decide whether your home stays dry for decades, so we photograph every one before we close it up.

The proof

Six systems. Six layers most people never see.

Photos on this page are stand-ins showing the standard. Your own project gets its own photos, in your Home Passport.

Ice-and-water membrane and drip edge on roof decking

Roofing

Ice-and-water membrane and edge metal

What we do
On every Thunderhead roof we install ice-and-water membrane at the eaves, valleys and penetrations, along with new edge metal, flashing and pipe boots. We inspect the deck first and replace rotted decking at a posted per-sheet price.
Why it matters
Roof leaks usually start at the edges, valleys and penetrations. These layers are what keep water out when the shingles are stressed.

Taped house wrap and flashing tape around a window

Siding

Taped house wrap and flashing tape

What we do
Siding goes over a weather barrier with taped seams, flashing tape at every window and door, and repaired sheathing underneath.
Why it matters
Siding sheds most water, and the barrier behind it handles what gets past. Taped seams and flashed openings are what protect the wall.

Sill pan flashing under a new door

Windows and doors

Sill pans and sealed openings

What we do
Every door gets a sill pan, and every opening gets flashing tape and low-expansion foam. Units are custom-measured and built to order.
Why it matters
Water finds the bottom of an opening first. A sill pan sends it back out instead of into the framing.

Deck framing with butyl tape on every joist

Decks

Footings, framing and butyl tape

What we do
Sundown decks use concrete footings, treated framing, and butyl tape on every joist and beam, with hidden fasteners above.
Why it matters
The framing is the part of a deck you never see again. Protecting the top of every joist helps it last as long as the decking above.

Hidden gutter hangers screwed into the fascia

Gutters

Hidden hangers and sealed miters

What we do
Headwaters gutters are formed on site to exact length, hung with hidden hangers screwed into the fascia, with sealed miters and end caps.
Why it matters
Gutters fail where they are attached and where they are joined. Solid fastening and sealed seams keep them working in heavy rain.

Scraped, sanded and caulked trim before painting

Paint and stain

Prep before the first coat

What we do
Every Redbud project includes washing, scraping, sanding, spot-priming or brightening, and caulk at every trim joint.
Why it matters
A finish is only as good as the surface under it. Prep is the part of painting no one sees in the finished photo.

Your Home Passport

You will see it, even after it is covered.

Our crew photographs every hidden layer before it is covered, and those photos go in your Home Passport along with your products, colors and warranty details.

That record is why our price makes sense. You are not paying for a top layer. You are paying for a complete system, and the photos prove it.
