Serving Branson and the Ozarks

An exterior painting contractor for Branson and Table Rock Lake homes.

Big Chief Exteriors is a Branson exterior painter and family-owned painting company serving Table Rock Lake and the Ozarks. Our house painters handle exterior house painting, trim painting, deck staining and log home staining with the Redbud system, using Sherwin-Williams paint and stain applied with the prep that makes a finish last: washing, scraping, repairing, caulking and priming before color goes on. Sun, humidity and freeze-thaw cycles are hard on exterior finishes around Table Rock Lake, and most paint failures start with skipped preparation. We paint siding, trim, soffit, fascia and gutters, and stain decks, cedar siding and log cabins, with a detailed fixed price for your full scope of work and several payment options.

Straight answers

Painting and staining questions from Branson and Table Rock Lake homeowners.

How much does it cost to paint a house exterior in Branson?

Exterior painting and staining in Branson average $5 to $9 per square foot, depending on how much prep work and repair the surface needs.

For example, 2,000 square feet of wall surface works out to roughly $10,000 to $18,000 at those averages. The low end is a surface in good shape that needs washing and light prep. The high end is a surface that needs scraping, sanding, repairs or rotted trim replaced before any color goes on.

These are averages, so your fixed price comes after a free estimate, with several payment options. Washing, scraping, sanding, spot-priming and caulk at every trim joint are part of the price, not extras.

How often should I paint or stain my home in Missouri?

As a rule of thumb, painted siding and trim need repainting every 7 to 10 years, and stained wood such as decks and cedar siding needs a fresh coat every 2 to 4 years. Sun, moisture and prep decide where you land in that range.

South- and west-facing walls take the most sun and wear out first. Shaded walls stay damp and can grow mildew. Cracking, peeling, chalking, faded color and bare wood are signs it is time, and peeling usually points to a prep problem the last time around.

At your free estimate we look at the finish on each side of your house and tell you honestly what can wait and what should not.

When is the best time of year to paint outside?

In the Ozarks, spring and fall are the best times to paint outside, when temperatures are mild and there are several dry days in a row.

Paint and stain need to cure without rain, heavy dew or freezing temperatures, and wood has to be dry before it is coated. Mid-summer heat can make a coating dry too fast in direct sun, and winter cold falls outside most products' temperature limits. Every Sherwin-Williams product has its own temperature range, and we follow it.

Booking ahead for spring and fall gets you on the schedule. Your project manager keeps you posted on weather delays.

How often does a log home need staining?

As a rule of thumb, a log home needs a fresh coat of stain every 3 to 5 years, and the sunniest walls and the deck floor may need it sooner.

Logs take a beating from sun, rain and wide swings in temperature. Fading, a dry or chalky look, water that soaks in instead of beading, and gray wood are signs it is time. Chinking and checking repair matter as much as the stain, because gaps between logs let water in.

We stain log homes with Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Log Home Stain, one product line for every log home, and chinking and checking repair are available as add-ons.
