How does an under-deck drainage system work?
An under-deck drainage system catches the water that falls through the gaps in your deck boards and channels it to a gutter and downspout, so the space under your deck stays dry.
With a ZipUp ceiling installed under the joists, that space becomes a dry patio, a place for furniture or a covered spot by a walkout basement door. It also protects what is stored under the deck.
At your design session we show you the layout in a 3D rendering, including where the water drains.
Can you add one under my existing deck?
Yes, if the deck is sound. We check the framing and joists first, because the ceiling attaches to them.
A rotted joist or soft framing needs repair first. We tell you what we find and show you photos.
If your deck is worn out, it may make more sense to replace it and build the ceiling in at the same time, and we tell you honestly which makes sense.
Can I add lights and a ceiling fan?
Yes. Lights and a ceiling fan can both be added under the ceiling.
A lit, fanned space under your deck works like an outdoor room. We plan where the fixtures go at your design session, so they are part of the design instead of an afterthought.
If you want the whole space enclosed, see our outdoor room builder.
How much does an under-deck ceiling cost?
An under-deck ceiling in Branson averages $30 to $50 per square foot installed, depending on the features you choose.
For example, a 300-square-foot area works out to roughly $9,000 to $15,000 at those averages. Lights, a ceiling fan and the shape of your deck all move the price within that range.
These are averages, so your fixed price comes after a design session. Projects of any size are welcome, with several payment options: monthly payments, or do the project now and pay later.
Does it work with composite decking?
Yes. A ZipUp under-deck ceiling works with composite decking, and it is a popular add-on for the elevated decks we build.
Composite boards leave small gaps for water to drain through, and the ceiling catches that water below. Our decks use butyl tape on every joist and beam to protect the framing.
You can add the ceiling when we build a new deck or add it to a sound existing deck.
